August 2025

Flooding and Drainage update as at 16th August 2025. (Updated for Website 3rd Sept 25)

At the 25th July MAG meeting Network Rail confirmed provisional dates for CML to carry out the work to clear the remaining blockage at the crossing are Sat 11th October and Sat 18th October (overnight) but this is yet to be 100% confirmed once access is agreed. Expected works will involve digging up the track in one section to open up the drainage system, replace a section of pipe and then back-fill.

Clearing of the surface water sewer on Main road – Lincs CC Highways originally scheduled road closures for one week from 13th  October NOW changed to w/c 20th October, between 8pm-6am and will be installing 4 new silt trap gullies initially, raising the kerb next to the Chestnuts (were rain water regularly ponds into the road), other carriageway patching/footway repairs and lining will be carried out at the same time. Additionally, all gulleys in the village will be cleaned by the cyclical team (started w/c 1st sept).

It is expected that Anglian Water will carry out the spot digs that have have been approved for further investigation and cleaning at 3 locations (Mill Lane/ Old Post Office/The Gables) at the same time w/c 20th October 2025 onwards, again between the hours of 8pm to 6am. There is an outside possibility this might happen sooner and /or continue longer as this work may identify further blockages that will require additional clearance work.

It has been suggested that the road closures during October could potentially be utilised to enable access for the machinery required for ripairan ditch clearance on the Whistle Stop side of Main Road opposite the garage.

Clearing of Mill Lane lateral 8” blocked Drain – Following the National Grid pipe break of 4th July that confirmed the surface water system in Mill Lane was totally blocked, LCC Highways have confirmed that they will clear once AW works on Main road are completed as these pipes feed into the manhole for the surface water culvert at the junction of Mill Lane that requires clearance by AW in the first instance. Still awaiting date.

Maxey Cut Bank erosion works – It is estimated that works are to be completed by the Enviroment Agency by late Autumn 2025.

Additional measures around River flap valve – Plans have been confirmed to install a Penstock gate/valve on the village side of the culvert so it can be closed off formally when required. This will replace the sandbags and sheeting and has been approved and is awaiting installation. A mesh filter has also been requested.

Section 19 report. Version 11 the final report was published on the 15th July.  All homes affected have been written to by the LCC Floods and Water team. The instructions however on how to access a summary of the report online along with updates on works completed appear to be out of date. Clarification on this has been sort from Floods and Water and it is hoped a direct link to the final report can be posted on the Parish council website as soon as possible. LCC have now updated Floods and water flood investigations reporting website and the Parish council have posted Final section 19 report on the Parish council website.

As soon as any further information is available on any of the above the Parish council website will be updated.
