June 2025
Flooding and Drainage update as at 16th June 2025.
Network Rail confirmed at the 28th May MAG meeting that no date has yet been set for their contractor CML to carry out the work to clear the blockage in the water surface culvert under the barrier arm at the rail crossing. The price to install a new section of pipe and clear the blockage is more expensive and complex than NR expected and higher approval for this work is now being sort. NR did though give an undertaking that the work would have to be done. This is more complex due to the railway equipment in the area, the track support zone and the track. This means the work requires a design and significant monitoring plan. We have been promised a further update at the next MAG meeting on the 25th June. In the meantime, the emergency pump and pipework under the tracks remains in place should it be needed.
The 3 remaining blockages identified and marked up by Anglian water at the Mill Lane /Main Road junction, the Gables Main Road and in the second chamber in front of the Old Post Office have still to be cleared by AW.
The long-awaited visit by LCC Floods and water should have taken place by the time you read this report to enable the long-awaited Section 19 report to be finalised.
As soon as any further information is available on any of the above the Parish council website will be updated.
All homes should by now have received a letter from the Environment Agency in connection with The Maxey Cut Banks Refurbishment project. The Maxey cut channel was constructed in the 1950s. The lifecycle of the banks means they are now due for refurbishment. Delivery of the refurbishment of the embankments is planned between Winter 2026 and Summer 2028 subject to funding and approval. Further information is available in the leaflet.
Take care. Philip. Tallington Parish council as at 16th June 2025.
