May 2026

Tallington Flood & Drainage repairs update as at 15th May 2026.

On the 2nd May Network Rail and their contractors CML carried out another detailed survey of the blocked surface water culvert at the crossing to facilitate a new design option to progress a permanent clearance solution. NR are at this time unable to confirm timescales until the final design has been signed off and potential dates for access onto the railway have been looked into to undertake the designed solution. The potential solution may require a blockade on the railway to undertake the works i.e. longer timeframe. On a positive note NR at the same time utilised the backup emergency blue pipe and a pump onsite to dewater the culvert upstream toward the village from the Level crossing. This lay flat blue pipe will shortly be replaced to maintain the emergency backup as the current one has deteriorated.

LCC Floods and water team have so far installed 2 of the 4 early warning telemetry stations promised - one being at the river bridge in the sheep field dyke (Initially incorrectly located over the river itself suspended from the bridge but now removed) with another in the wooded marsh/wetland area upstream of the bridge beyond Hawthorne cottage that we monitor during heavy rainfall as an indicator of when and if to call for the Environment Agency 8” pump.

New updates on any scheduled work will be posted on the council website and via the WhatsApp community group as and when received and if before the next monthly report.
