Maxey Cut Bank erosion works – Works to repair the embankment upstream of Tallington: This is at the location known locally as ‘the waterfall’ and is erosion that was discovered after trees were removed. The Environment Agency Field Team have this programmed in once repairs at Elton flood embankment are complete - date TBC.
Additional measures around River flap valve – Works to remove sandbags/ sheeting at the flap valve and replace with permanent solution:
As previously reported a gate or ‘slacker’ was to be installed on the village side by the EA. This would have been usually open to allow drainage of surface water but could be closed by the EA to prevent river water backing up. The replacement with a new heavy duty flap valve in May this year itself should prevent this occurring but a gate would provide additional protection. However preliminary work on the 22nd September revealed that the gate would not fit the concrete head wall as presently constructed and provide the required seal. The EA are now considering alternatives including possibly installing a winter bung. The concerns of the many residents who have contacted the Parish council have been passed onto the EA requesting action before the onset of high river levels. In the meantime, the EA and village flood team are monitoring the situation.
Take care. Philip. Tallington Parish council as at 20th October 2025.
